Jill McKellan Portrait

Every story begins long before it is written.

For me, writing has always been less about putting words on a page and more about listening—closely, patiently—to what people are trying to express but haven’t yet found language for.

Over the past 15+ years, I’ve worked with authors, entrepreneurs, and individuals from all walks of life who carry something important inside them: a story, an idea, a legacy, or a message they feel called to share.

My path into writing wasn’t linear. It came from a shift—away from traditional business work and toward something far more human: helping people articulate what matters most to them.

That shift changed everything. I began working deeply with narrative—ghostwriting memoirs, shaping business books, refining manuscripts, and helping clients bring clarity and structure to ideas that often felt overwhelming at the start.

What I discovered is that most people don’t struggle with ideas—they struggle with translation. Turning lived experience into clear, compelling writing is where I come in.

I don’t impose a voice on a project. I listen for it.

Every collaboration begins with conversation—open, unforced, and centered on understanding not just what you want to say, but why it matters.

From there, we shape the work together. Some projects are deeply hands-on and collaborative. Others require quiet refinement and editorial precision. No two stories are ever approached the same way.

Outside of my work, life is grounded in the rhythm of western Wisconsin—music, cooking, quiet moments, and time with my granddaughter, who calls me “Bushi.”

These moments matter just as much as the writing. They remind me that stories don’t only live in books—they live in everyday life, in conversations, and in the spaces between them.

“The work is never just about writing a book—it’s about helping someone finally hear their own voice clearly.”
